חברת InnoTek שיחררה היום את קוד המקור של VirtualBox תחת רישיון GPL. ההודעה באתר הקהילתי, שהושק לרגל ההכרזה, מסבירה שמדובר בטכנולוגיית וירטואליזציה (חדשות) עבור מערכות ההפעלה לינוקס ו-Windows (32 ביט בלבד, גירסה עבור Mac OS X נמצאת בפיתוח) שמאפשר לארח מספר מערכות הפעלה, בהן: Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4/2.6), ו-OpenBSD.
